Chevrolet Bringing Back Chevelle?

In the early 70s, the Chevrolet Chevelle was known as one of the baddest muscle cars around. Unfortunately, the Chevelle's run lasted just about 14 years before it was finally taken out of the Chevy lineup for good. Or so we thought... New reports from GM Authority, suggest that the Chevelle could make a comeback. Back in good ol' 2012- December 4th to be exact- Chevy apparently filed the Chevelle name with the USPTO for "Exterior badges for vehicles." This not only keeps the name from being used elsewhere, but it allows for use on possible Chevy models in the future.

Chevrolet Bringing Back Chevelle?

Like other nameplates in the past (El Camino, Nomad), Chevy and other automakers alike will continue trademarking iconic names not necessarily for future use, but for the sake of historical preservation. But could the Chevelle be different? Well, if we're to believe GM North American president Mark Reuss and his idea for a BRZ/FR-S rivaling sportscar, it could very well carry the Chevelle moniker. And with the recent re-introduction of the classic Z/28, it wouldn't come as a surprise to do so. Here's to hoping.
