2014 BMW X4 Concept: Useless Has Been Downsized
In this week's sign of the Apocolypse, BMW has once again unveiled a segment-crossing vehicle that no one asked for; the BMW X4 Sport Activity Coupe Thing. Following in the footsteps of the X6, the smaller X4 is essentially a jacked-up 3 Series GT that we saw earlier this year. I know we have been desensitized by these aforementioned crossovers and high-riding wagons, but this is really terrible. The fact that this car does not induce vomit is actually a sad state of the new automotive market that we live in. But who knows. The X6, while a visual paradox, was incredibly fun to drive in M guise. The X6 M was capable of turns that no vehicle that large should be capable of achieving The turbocharged inline-six on the non-M version was just as good as in the 335i and though not big on space, actually proved to be a fun car.
So perhaps the X4 gets a pass for now. Sure, BMW has been going in the wrong direction, with pumping in engine sound to the M5, and basically straying away from its motorsport-inspired roots, but it has been doing great things in terms of building what the people want. If the masses want a small crossover with no cargo space, gosh-darn-it, BMW is going to be the best at making such a crappy machine- hey you don't have to buy one!
