2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Evoques Something Familiar

As predicted, Land Rover used New York as the setting to take the wraps off the all-new Range Rover Sport. Also, as predicted, the new Range Rover Sport bears a strong resemblance to the Range Rover Evoque. In fact, it looks like an Evoque on steroids. Now, Range Rover purists (are there any?) may scoff at the appearance, but it is the perfect design to convey the ideal road-going Range Rover. Hunkered down to the street, sloped and mean-looking, LR is calling the Range Rover Sport the "Fastest, most agile and responsive Range Rover ever." OK, we can dig that. Engine options include a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 capable of 330 horsepower and for the more power-thirsty, a 5.0-liter supercharged V8, making 503 horsepower. If these engines sound familiar, it is because they are the same offerings on the new Jaguar F-Type. While most of the Range Rover Sports duties will likely involve very fast trips to the grocery store and whisking the kids to soccer practice, it certainly has the capability for more demanding tasks. Power is sent through an 8-speed automatic transmission to full-time four-wheel drive. There are two types of 4WD systems offered, and the more capable version has a two-speed transfer case with low-range. This system has lockable differentials and a 50/50 torque split when needed. Lets be real, the Range Rover Sport will spend most of its time at the country club, but its nice to know that you could drive through the sand bunkers with ease!
