Video: How To Dip Your GT-R In Plastic
We'll be the first to admit, we had never heard of plasti-dipping a car before the folks at Hooniverse brought it to our attention. The best description we can come up with is that it is a lower-cost alternative to matte paint finishes. Also, unlike matte finishes, it sounds like you can do it from the comfort of your own garage. This is how to do it to a Nissan GT-R.
While this is not exactly novice-level DIY, any wrench-turner with decent skill should be able to pick up on this. We would be very curious to see how the plasti-dip coating handles scuffing. Matte finish, though possessing the appearance of being scuff-proof, is actually harder to protect than gloss. If this coating does not have that problem, we may have found the successor to the widely popular matte finish.
