BMW Z4 GTE: Coming to a Rearview Near You!
What is better than high performance BMW road machines? Race-spec Bimmers, of course! After the three-year campagin of the M3 GT (background car), it was time for a new compatition-ready BMW coupe. Here is it, in the form of the BMW Z4 GTE. This vehicle had been in development since July of last year. While a Z4 GT3 car was available, changes needed to be made to comply with ACO rules. That included ditching antilock brakes and traction control, making this a bare-bones racer for the skilled driver. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=LQVNk6Wu6QA The car is also more svelte than the M3 GT that it replaces. It weighs in at 2,745 pounds, and is propelled by a 480-horsepower 4.4-liter V8. A six-speed, paddle shift gearbox transfers power to the rear wheels.
The video you see here is of the launch of the BMW Z4 GTE at Daytona International Raceway. Sure, you’ll be able to see this car in the 2013 American Le Mans Series season, but with NASCAR’s Daytona 500 just around the corner, wouldn’t it be fun to watch this thing duke it out with Jeff Gordon, or Dale Jr. That would be a race to watch!
