Mitsubishi 3000GT Tries to Be a Ferrari
For today’s Ebay find, we bring you a Ferrari F430. Well, actually it’s a Mitsubishi 3000GT under the tacky body kit and glued-on badges. But the seller hopes you (and your pocketbook) thinks it’s a Ferrari. If the chintzy side skirts fail to scare you away, then take a look inside. I’m not sure where the seller found those seat covers, but they’re definitely not fooling anyone. They would look more at home in one of those horrifying Dale Earnhardt Jr edition Monte Carlos. As for the rest of the car, it’s all fake vents and various glued-on air ducts that bear a striking resemblance to genital warts. You also get a chrome gas cap, so you don’t have to buy one at Pep Boys.
Mechanically, the seller claims all is well. He’s vague when it comes to engine specs and the likes, but he does say the car has a custom-made Ferrari muffler. Sure it does.
This is all yours for a generous $14,495. A 1996 3000GT is only worth $4,000 at best. So this deal nets the lucky buyer a mid 90s Mitsubishi 3000GT in average condition along with $10K in (fake) Ferrari addons. I’m stumped as to the purpose of this car, since any self-respecting gearhead wouldn’t want to be spotted within 5 miles of this plastic monstrosity. The seller reassures us that “you will never lose money on replica”. My advice? Take your money and buy a nice used Miata.
