New York Auto Show Artwork Through the Mind of Designer Orlando Arocena
Aside from all the automotive buzz that surrounds the lead-up to the New York International Auto Show- or any large auto show for that matter– there is a huge amount of preparation put in by the auto show coordinators, event staff and of course, the design team. Orlando Arocena- an American-based designer- was given the task by the New York Auto Show staff of depicting a key visual for the large exhibition; the official event poster. With ideals in mind, Orlando began work on the signature accentuated Lady Liberty, the retro-esque celebratory backdrop and the mid-century era turned futuristic vehicle design. Working off his much-loved design from 2012, Orlando says: "I was told that my idea of incorporating the Statue of Liberty in 2012 was an iconic visual that resonated very well throughout web and print, so much so that the client decided to leverage the pose yet again. This time from a straight on view, and in a more celebratory environment."
And celebratory it is. The new backdrop features beams of sunlight bellowing in the distance, confetti and/or ticker-tape, and of course, the iconic visual of Lady Liberty. Her arms are outstretched as the hood ornament of a futuristic vehicle resembling the Audi R8.
The artwork can be seen leading up to and at this year's New York Auto Show, which will open to the press on March 27-28, and the general public March 29-April 7.
