Ireland Approves 'Drunk Driving' Permit in Rural Areas [UPDATE] Maybe...

This March marks yet another St. Patrick's day where we all get silly drunk on off-colored beer in celebration of leprechauns and sheep, or something, and then pass out in the back of a cabbie. And as with every St. Pattie's day, or any other drunken romp about, drinking and driving are two things that should never mix…that is, unless you live in rural Ireland. According the to TheJournal.ie, a new bill was recently passed allowing patrons who have consumed "two or three" drinks and live in rural areas, to drive themselves back home if needed. These "Drunk Driving" permits, keep residents from ending up "at home looking at the four walls, night in and night out, because they don't want to take the risk of losing their license," says councillor Danny Healy-Rae. This movement, Healy-Rae hopes, will keep in tact some of the last remaining pubs left in rural Ireland, although, many other lawmakers are determined to dismiss the bill. **UPDATE** According to sources, the bill has not been passed but is more of a publicity stunt in order for Healy-Rae to gain footing while running for office. The bill is unlikely to be passed. Thanks to Eoin D. for the tip! Source: TheJournal.ie
