eBay Car of the Week: 1997 Morgan Plus 8 GTR

This rare Morgan Plus 8 GTR race car is up for grab on eBay until January 23rd for a price of $200K. In the US, the Morgan nameplate is found few and far-between. The UK-based company's retro-tastic British styling has yet to find its niche stateside. That doesn't stop a few good blokes from appreciating some good ol' British design as much as we do. This Morgan Plus 8 GTR- based off the standard Morgan Plus 8- or, "BIG BLUE" as it is affectionately known, was an undertaking developed by managing director Charles Morgan under the guidance of race director Chris Lawrence as a test for a totally new futuristic Morgan. Built from the ground up in 1996 at Morgan's headquarters, the GTR developed 600-hp from a 6.2L small block V8 and was designed and built using bonded and riveted aircraft-style aluminum construction. Arriving in the United States in 1997, the Plus 8 GTR saw the track only twice under the guidance of Morgan. It got to play at Laguna Seca and Sebring, before officially retiring in 1998. Since then, the car was purchased by Morgan dealer Norb Bries of Illinors and has compteded in numerous vintage races since then. Unfortunately, it is not street legal… Want It?
