Ford Capri to Co-Star in Jamie Oliver Show "Food Fight Club"
While we here stateside might not celebrate the Ford Capri as much as, say a 1965 Mustang fastback, the Capri was a popular and fun-to-drive coupe in Europe in the 1980's. Meanwhile, Foodies on both sides of the pond will know the name Jamie Oliver. The celebrity chief has been on the Food Network countless times and has several cooking shows in the UK. Well, Oliver premiered a new show this week, called Food Fight Club, airing on UK channel C4. Sure there will be food, but the important part is one of Jamie's co-starts. We are not referring to BBC's Jimmy Doherty, rather the classic Ford Capri they will both be driving occasionally on the show.
The specific car is a Ford "Brooklands" Capri. This car was originally developed by Ford Special Vehicle Engineering (jeez, they have to call everything different over there. What do they call a whopper? A royale with cheese?!) This model was a special Ford Capri 280. Only 1,038 were made, and it featured a 2.8-liter V6 that helped it reach a top speed of 127 mph. Both hosts owned Ford Fiestas growing up in the 1980's, and both confessed that the Capri was a car they aspired to own. If you live in the US of A, it may be hard to catch the show, but you can certainly ogle pictures of the Capri, and isn't that the most important part?
