The 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series: Track Focused Luxury GT

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is finally here. After nearly two years of rumors, heavy camouflaged cars running around the Nürburgring making all sorts of glorious noises, and several special edition models, Mercedes-Benz released official pictures of  its most focused supercar ever ahead of its official debut at the 2012 LA Auto Show. Where some may accuse the standard Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG of being too soft, slow and heavy, Mercedes-Benz and AMG set about silencing the critics by  putting the big V8 coupe on a diet and exercise plan. The result is the 6.2 liter V8 now produces 622 naturally aspirated horsepower. That's right; this V8 is making over 100 hp per liter without a turbo or supercharger. The big 6.2 liter is even torquier than before with bottom end power receiving a generous bump of 11 pound feet. Mercedes-Benz claims a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 196 mph. Pretty impressive, especially with that huge wing out back.

But similar to the other AMG Black Series products, that rear wing works, and is one one part of the serious performance that the SLS AMG Black Series is capable of. In total, weight savings amount to a 159 lb decrease over the already lightened SLS AMG GT. This is thanks to the extensive use of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) in the new body kit, but also in the reinforcement of the aluminum space frame. Additional track focused upgrades include an adjustable coil-over suspension (on a Mercedes-Benz) , two-piece carbon ceramic brakes, an electronic rear differential and a widened track.

All of this paired with the SLS AMG Black Series' new chin spoiler, rear diffuser, and vented side skirts make for one seriously aggressive road car. Which is exactly what Mercedes-Benz intended, as the SLS AMG Black Series was heavily inspired by the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 race car. We can't wait to see this car fully undressed and doing massive power-slides around every corner. VIDEO: See more of the Mercedes-Benz SLS Black Series
