Nissan Wants Old Women to Buy Their New GT-R
The Nissan GT-R is one of the most ferocious sportscars to date. So much so in fact, that it’s gained a reputation similar to a 30-foot, man-eating lizard. And with all this ferocity comes a minimal price tag of just under $100K, which to Ferrari and Lamborghini owners, is the spare change in their left pocket. But from what we can see, the GT-R has begun to lose some ground. Since its original introduction in 2007, the R35 hasn’t gone through much more than a few minor facelifts in preparation for a full overhaul by 2017 (?) So, in order for Nissan to keep their GT-R relevant for yet another year going into 2014, GT-R chief engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno says that the group needs to get busy with a bunch of old women.
That’s right, Nissan said that they want to include more optional extras for 2014 like a fashionable “amber red” interior in order to appeal more to “women or slightly older drivers.” Sexy.
As of right now, Nissan says, that most GT-R buyers range from 45-50 years of age with an average income of $200K (obviously), thus, the car itself needs to transform to appeal to buyers. Smart move? Maybe. Do we think it's stupid? Also maybe.
