2012 Paris Motor Show: What to Expect in The City of Lights

“The future, now.” That’s the theme that officials at this years highly anticipated Paris Motor Show will feature when doors open to the press on September 27th, and with about a week left until we can officially get our grubby paws all over the details, we wanted to take a look at what we can expect from this years Mondial De L’Automobile. Ranging from A-VW, almost all automakers will be finding their way to the stage come the 27th, and most if not all, will be premiering either all new production models, concepts or both. Audi RS5 Cabriolet

The classic German automaker Audi seems to be bulking up and stripping down for a Paris premier with their all new RS5 Cabriolet. Complete with the same 4.2-liter V8 good for 450-hp on the hard top, the topless variant comes mounted to a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive. Expect a hefty European price tag of €88,500 ($111,500) as the RS5 cabriolet begins taking orders overseas by early 2013 and soon after in the U.S. Citroen DS3 Cabrio

Following in the footsteps of the Germans, the in-home French seem to be going topless as well with their all new Citroen DS3 Cabrio. Based on the hot selling DS3 hardtop, the Cabrio take a city car like approach. Rather than tearing off the whole roof, Citroen did away with hard center of the roof in favor of a folding cloth top, but kept the doors and roof arches in tact. Although no specs have turned up on the Frenchman, we expect the same 1.4- or 1.6-liter engine to be found under the hood. Ford Mondeo Wagon

Wagon power! Having not seen a cooler wagon since the days of Clark Griswold, the all new Ford Mondeo (Fusion) wagon sports a handsome new Aston Martin-esque front fascia, sharp new body lines and room for seven. Honda CR-Z

Everyone’s not so favorite hybrid is growing up. Receiving an all new facelift complete with an open grille, new fog inlets and LED’s, the CR-Z is looking to wow French buyers into giving the quirky little hatch another chance of life. Jaguar F-Type http://youtu.be/NqxnOkC5TpM Based on 2011's stunningly designed C-X16 concept, the Jaguar F-Type has been kept under wraps sporting only a black cloth top and loads of “F” covered camo. The two-seater convertible will launch into production by early next year with your choice of 335- or 375-hp from Jag’s brand new 3.0-liter supercharged V6, or to up the ante, the F-Type will offer a mind-numbing 5.0-liter V8 option. Even better, all will be available with a manual transmission. Kia Pro_Cee’d

Deriving its name from a computer program of sorts, the all new Kia Pro_cee'd (underscore included), comes with two less doors, a sportier new engine and some head turning good looks. The handsome new three-door hatch comes complete with the option of a 1.4- and 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder good for a GTI rivaling 200-hp. Unfortunately, we won’t find it stateside anytime soon. McLaren P1 “Design Study”

2012 Paris Motor Show: What to Expect in The City of Lights

One of the most highly anticipated new models to break cover comes in the form of the McLaren P1. Coming off weeks of previews, spy shots and downright over-preparation by the McLaren group, the P1 hypercar does not disappoint. With a stunning futuristic design reminiscent of the MP4-12C, the P1 fills the shoes of the former fastest car in the world McLaren F1. Officially, no details have been given, but expect somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000-hp and a top speed well over 200 mph. Peugeot Onyx Concept

Although in financial downturn, in-home Peugeot knew that a less than impressive turnout in Paris would be socially unacceptable, thus, the Peugeout Onyx was born. Comprised of a 3.7-liter V8 hybrid engine, the Onyx delivers an impressive 680-hp to the rear wheels. Unfortunately like most, this concept will not find its way into the struggling Peugeot lineup. Volkswagen Golf Mk7

Revealed a bit earlier than expected, the Golf Mk7, was another highly anticipated new model expected in Paris. Coming off six generations of one of the greatest hatchbacks ever made, the interested public along with the VW group has high hopes for their next generation. With the engine variants topping out at a 1.4-liter 138-hp TSI engine, we expect a spankin’ new GTI in the not to distant future.
