Ultra Rare Porsche 911 GT2 Clubsport Sold in the UK

If you're in the market for the ultimate air cooled 911, look no further. This 1996 911 GT2 Clubsport is one of 20 special Clubsports that were part of the extremely limited production run of 57 road-going 993 GT2's built between 1993-1998. This left hand drive model, painted an insanely seductive shade of Blood Orange, is one of one. Making it, perhaps, the rarest turbocharged 911 ever. The good folks at Hexagon Classics in the UK had it up for sale. There's a lot to like about the GT2 Clubsport. For the money, there aren't many cars I'd enjoy just staring at for hours on end. Then there's the fact that it's a real homologation special. Where the "normal" GT2 was essentially a rear-wheel-drive 911 turbo with bulimia, the GT2 Clubsport used the shell from the actual GT2 race car.

The suspension mounting points are exactly the same as the race car with springs and dampers modified for street use, while the roll cage inside is built to 1996 FIA regulations.  The doors are made from aluminum, and the widened fenders as well as the bumpers are 100% carbon-kevlar. The total weight savings is 100 kilograms (around 220 lbs.) over the standard GT2, which means this 911 tips the scales at a scant 2750 pounds. Unfortunately the GT2 was just too awesome for U.S. streets and it still remains on the "do not import list".

Outback sits Porsche's signature aircooled 3.6-liter flat-6. In GT2 Clubsport form, its twin turbos boosted power to 430 horsepower. This may not seem like a lot compared to a modern performance cars, but modern performance cars weigh about 50% more than this spätzle loving track scalpel.

The wheels alone are enough to get you in with hardcore Porsche fans.  Speedline worked closely with Porsche through the early 90's supplying wheels for the 964 Turbo, and the special 993's including the 911RS, 911 RS Clubsport, 911 GT2 and 911 GT2 Clubsport.

Inside its all business, with the interior compeltely stripped of anything but door cards and basic climate control. Air conditioning, powered windows, leather, ABS, carpets or any kind of upholstery were removed in an effort to reduce as much weight as possible. Hexagon Classics doesn't list the purchase price of the car, but our estimates say its worth at least $250,000 to $300,000.  I think it's worth taking out a second mortgage on the house. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsZecCgTkJE See more of this beautiful 911 GT2 Clubsport at Hexagon Classics.
