Here's why Ferrari's Clienti Program might be the Ultimate Dream

There has to be that moment in most everyone's life when they decide to stop. For ultra successful people, that time probably comes a lot later than for others (usually 25-30 years old). For car guys, it may come with the purchase of their dream car. That car they've saved up for, working hard and scraping together a living. Maybe even buying and selling their way up to whatever their dream car is.

You have to imagine that the participants in Ferrari's clienti programs are some tough SOB's. Seriously, to say my dream is to own and drive my very own Ferrari race car maintained and prepared by Ferrari race engineers is definitely setting the bar... umm...high. And that's exactly what the Ferrari Cliente program is; a factory backed race team for rich children.

Now we're not knocking the program, quite the opposite actually, but how else do you describe a gathering of twenty gentleman drivers, and roughly five times that in support staff, descending on a world famous racetrack in Belgium.

The event which took place July 17th-18th is the second to last event on the Corse Clienti XX program. Having made apperances around the world at Suzuka in Japan, Infineon and Laguna Seca raceways in California, Monza in Italy, and Paul Ricard Circuit in France, the very wet Spa circuit was the precursor to the planned season finale at Silverstone in the fall. The day's events began with an unveiling of the new 599XX Evo to owners in preparation of a full day of on-track driving.

Though the weather did put a damper on things, nothing  can dull a V-12 sports cars doing a full throttle fly-by, with a Formula One car in tow funneling buckets of water into the air.  The track was pretty slippery, with the weather going back and forth from dry to wet, making it a mess of puddles and grease patches.  You can see how reluctant these drivers are to commit to Eau Rouge.  Just goes to show you how close to nuts your average pro racecar driver is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpGACv90sY4

The real stars of  Corse Clienti were the F1 Clienti Cars. This a a special provided to owners of ex-F1 cars who want to relive a bit of motorsports history on track. In other words they strap themselves in to full-blooded racecars where legends like Gilles Villeneuve, Jean Alesi, Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell and Michael Schumacher once sat, and hope not to die. Several F1 cars made it to the event, including an older V-12 era car, as well as the unmistakable screaming V-10 era cars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPnrq53ekbw

Unlike NASCAR, F1 cars race in the wet. The state of the art rain tires on a modern F1 car can move as much as 16 gallons per second at 180 mph. You can see the evolution in tire technology across the race cars with a significant difference existing between V-12 and the V-10 F1 cars.

There were some more mundane Ferrari's that made it out to Corse Cliente like this run of the mill Ferrari FF:
