Slowhand, Fast Car: Clapton Commissions $4.7M Custom Ferrari
At some point, we're just going to change our name to “Custom Ferrari Blog.” Hot on the heels of James Glickenhaus’s dominance of the Nurburgring in his custom Ferrari P4/5, we receive word of yet another personalized Prancing Horse commissioned by someone with ungodly sums of money. Ferrari has officially announced the SP12 EC, built as a special project, for Eric Clapton (hence the EC), and it’s quite the looker. “Slowhand” desired a brand new Ferrari styled after the classic 512 BB, of which he owned three. The SP12 EC is based on the new 458 Italia, with custom bodywork from Ferrari’s Special Projects program, and styled by Pininfarina. Frankly, the result is more attractive than the 458 Italia on which the car is based. The sleek, clean lines are something missing from the latest offerings from Maranello.
Clapton, who reportedly dropped $4.7 million on the one-off supercar, is an avid Ferrari collector. In addition to the aforementioned 512’s, he owns a 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso, a 612 Scaglietti, and a 599 GTB Fiorano.
Between this and Glickenhaus’s P4/5, we can only imagine what custom Ferrari’s were going to stumble upon next!
