Unveiled: Abarth 695 Maserati Edition
Loads of special edition Fiats have come out of Torino, the latest in the form of the Abarth 695 Maserati Edition. This special guise will be displayed at the Piazza della Loggia and is set to honor the historical revival of the Mille Miglia, what Enzo Ferrari called "the most beautiful race in the world." Unlike the previous Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari, which blended the Abarth's sporty character and the Ferrari racing spirit, the 695 Maserati keeps things a bit cooler.
Like the "GranTurismo" touring style synonymous with Maserati, the new Abarth blends performance and style. At first glance, a classic, deep red, Maserati-derived paint job dubbed Pontevecchio Bordeaux, is paired with a grey convertible roof. Mounted to special performance tires, the 17-inch wheel design comes from a Maserati-inspired "Neptune" design.
Under the hood, the standard 1.4 gets a turbo and has been tuned to produce 180 hp. Along with a variable exhaust system, paddle shifters mated to the Abarth Competizione 5-speed automated manual gearbox reduce gearshift times and allows for superior control behind the wheel.
If the thought of a mini Maserati excites you, don't hold your breath. Only 499 of these special editions will be made in the next few years, and they'll "mainly" be sold European markets.
