Your Ride: 1970 Chevrolet Nova SS

Kyle Humphreys’ first Nova was maroon with a black interior and was handed down to him after his grandparents passed away. Today, Humphreys’ 1970 Nova is “kind of like a tribute to them.” Humphreys recalls, “I feel like I did when I was 17 back in 1988, driving my first car, a 1975 Nova.” Humphreys tells BoldRide the story behind his Nova SS. BoldRide: What was most challenging about the restoration process? Humphreys: Making the new doors and quarter panels all line up and fit together perfectly. I did not restore the car myself. The Nova was originally restored for a man's wife, but after all the work was done, his wife changed her mind and decided that she wanted an old Chevrolet Camaro instead. At least she wanted another Chevy! What have you done to make it a bolder ride? I replaced the 15 x 6 front and 15 x 7 rear Chevy rally rims with 15 x 6 front and 15 x 8 rear Cragar SS Wheels. What do you love and what would you change about your Nova? I love the color and restoration work done on my Nova. Besides the color, the model year and ghost flames really drew me towards it. I would like to change the existing Carter carburetor out to a Holley carburetor. Dream accessory you'd love to get for it and why? I would love to get a FM radio with a place to plug in my MP3 player. My current radio is the original AM radio, but it does not work. What's an inside fact about your Nova? My car’s original color was dark green and it had a V6 engine.

What's your favorite memory of your car? I would have to say driving it home for the very first time and pulling it into my garage. Favorite place to drive it and why? I like to drive it through town, there are always a lot of people there and my Nova gets a lot of attention. Everyone complements me on how much he or she likes my car. I would like to go to one of the Cruisin’ events that happens only twice a year at Ocean City, Maryland. People from all over go to these shows and I happen to know a lot of my friends who go too.  It would be great to bring my Nova there.
