The Pantera name comes from the word Panther. Tom Tjaarda, an American designer created the the body of the Pantera. The Pantera had a modern design, great performance and exotic looks but cost a lot less than comparable Ferraris or Lamborghinis. What the seller said about it This 1972 De Tomaso Pantera was purchased by owner from Gullwing Motors in Long Island, NY. The original owner had Carol Shelby sign the dashboard. Since its restoration the vehicle has approximately 2,000 miles on it. This vehicle is very fast and handles tight. All gears shift with ease and it's fun to drive. The horn works, the flip headlights work properly, all new rugs, new door panels, new aftermarket seats with new seat racks. The trunk hatch struts are new but due to the weight of the spoiler doesn't hold it up. There are new weather strippings and the interior is dynomat lined for sound proofing.
