Engine could be upgraded to more than 400 horsepower.

The rumor for a more focused version of the BMW M2 is back again – this time fueled by a new publication from Auto Motor und Sport.

Tentatively called the M2 GTS or M2 CSL, the car is already in the works and will use carbon-fiber body panels, a new aerodynamic kit featuring a large fixed rear wing, and a retuned version of the 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbocharged unit of the standard M2 with around 408 horsepower (300 kilowatts). We still don’t have a confirmation from the manufacturer, but this new report suggests the Bavarian company has already green-lighted the sports coupe.

More power means better brakes and BMW is expected to offer optional ceramic brakes for the high-performance model and track-biased adjustable suspension. Also, the car will sit lower and ride on wider wheels.

Interestingly, AMS says the upgraded M2 could ditch the rear seats in the interior – just like the M4 GTS.

The interest for the regular M2 is already pretty strong and BMW will most likely try to make the GTS/CSL version much more exclusive, wearing almost double price tag than the one of the standard car, some speculate.

Previous time we discussed the model, it was believed it could be introduced by the end of next year, but this time there’s no information on that topic.
