S3-powered baby crossover spotted at the Nurburgring.

Remember last week when Audi said it was considering an SQ2? It’s a done deal. A spicy prototype of the Q2 was spotted at the 'Ring flaunting a more aggressive body and a sportier suspension setup. Seeing quad exhaust tips on such a small crossover seems a bit too much, but then again the Mercedes-AMG GLA45 has them, so why not?

Lurking underneath the hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine which will like have the same 310 horsepower (228 kilowatts) and 280 pound-feet (380 newton meters) as in the facelifted S3. Chances are the SQ2 fitted with the optional S tronic transmission will offer 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque as it’s the case with the S3.

Audi’s quicker Q2 will be sold as standard with an all-wheel-drive quattro system to make sure all those ponies are channeled to the road in a suitable way. It’s also getting bigger brakes to match the engine’s extra muscle, along with larger wheels, and some tweaks inside the cabin which will further distance the performance subcompact crossover from the regular model.

Taking into account the Q2 will arrive at dealerships across Europe this fall, don’t expect Audi to launch the S version sooner than 2017. A recent report indicates there’s going to be an RS Q2 in the years to come with the 400-hp 2.5-liter five-cylinder of the yet unreleased RS3 Sedan, but it remains to be seen whether it will actually happen.
