2017 model year also brings Dynamic Chassis Control for more powerful versions.

Update: A YouTube video from our colleagues at AutoForum.cz has been added, showing the acceleration capabilities of the new 1.0 TSI engine.

While we are all waiting for Skoda to fully refresh the Octavia range soon, the Czech manufacturer has prepared a bunch of improvements for its bestseller.

After more than one million sales, the latest Octavia is entering 2017 model year, which brings a new turbocharged, three-cylinder petrol engine from the TSI family that replaces the current 1.2-liter, four-cylinder unit. The first three-cylinder engine for the model in its history has a displacement of 999 cubic centimeters and generates a maximum output of 115 horsepower (85 kilowatts) with a peak torque of 148 pound-feet (200 newton meters) between 2,000 and 3,500 rpm.

When mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox with two clutches, the TSI unit accelerates the car from a standstill to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 10.0 seconds and burns only 4.5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. If you go for the six-speed manual, it will grant you with a 0.1 seconds faster sprint and the same average fuel consumption.

If these numbers are not impressive enough, customers can also opt for a new aero package for the Active, Ambition and Style trim levels. It includes a lower chassis to reduce drag, active air flaps for better aerodynamics, and a tailgate or roof spoiler for improved air flow. Add low resistance tires and you’ve got reduced fuel consumption to 4.4 l/100 km with CO2 emissions of 102 grams per kilometer.

Other improvements for 2017MY include adaptive Dynamic Chassis Control for all Octavia versions with engines of a power output starting from 150 hp (110 kW), while the Climatronic automatic climate system comes with a new allergen filter.
