Ford bills the model as a "cure for range anxiety."

Ford has announced the 2017 Fusion Energi will have an EPA-estimated range of 610 miles with full tank of gas and a fully charged battery.

Boasting the highest combined range of any plug-in hybrid sold in the United States, the 2017 Fusion Energi features a number of improvements to the regenerative braking system and the plug-in hybrid software.  Thanks to these modifications, the new model can travel 60 miles further than its predecessor.

Power is provided by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine which is backed up by an electric motor and a 7.6 kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery pack.  This setup enables the sedan to travel up approximately 21 miles on electricity alone.  When the battery is depleted, the car is powered by its petrol engine which enables it to travel an additional 588 miles.

Ford is billing the 2017 Fusion Energi as a "cure for range anxiety" and notes its overall range is nearly triple that of the upcoming Tesla Model 3.  However, it is important to note the Model 3 is an electric vehicle so this isn't a fair comparison. To keep the company honest, we'll remind you the Model 3 has more than twice the range of the 2017 Focus Electric which will be introduced later this year.
