Audi is rolling out a special edition of the R8 Coupe V10 plus to celebrate the R8 LMS’ racing success.
Last year, the second generation of Audi Sport’s GT3 machine triumphed at the 24 Hours Nürburgring on its racing debut. Now, a road-going R8 in the top-spec V10 plus pays homage to that accomplishment. At the same time, the “selection 24h” special edition serves as a celebration for all the 323 wins accumulated by both generations of the R8 LMS since the first one hit the track back in 2009.
Only 24 units are going to be made and will feature a plethora of mechanical upgrades, including dynamic steering, adaptive damper control, and also those high-tech laser headlights. The supercar has the same mid-mounted, naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine unleashing 610 horsepower (449 kilowatts). It has enough punch to perform the 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) task in as little as 3.2 seconds before reaching a maximum velocity of 205 mph (330 kph).
The Audi R8 Coupe V10 plus “selection 24h” will be sold only with a tricolor paint featuring a Suzuka gray for the base color combined with mythos black and Misano red highlights as a nod to the R8 LMS. A glossy black carbon fiber finish has been applied onto the front spoiler mirror caps, rear wing, diffuser, and engine cover, while the side blades are adorned with the “R8 24h” logo. Rounding off the exterior changes are the 20-inch forged wheels with a 10-spoke Y design and an anthracite glossy black finish.
There are also some subtle visual tweaks inside the cabin where the leather upholstery comes in rotor gray while the air vents and the extended inlays of the digital instrument cluster feature a gloss CFRP look. Open the door and you will immediately notice the illuminated sills finished in glossy carbon and individually numbered from 1 to 24. As a special touch, the car gets entry lights projecting the Audi R8 logo onto the surface, a feature which is exclusive at this moment for the special edition, but will soon be offered on the regular model as well.
The R8 Coupe V10 plus “selection 24h” will be on display for the first time at the 24 Hours Nürburgring (26-29 May). Audi has already opened the order books in Germany where it starts from €229,000, making it €39,000 more expensive than the regular R8 Coupe V10 plus upon which it is based.
