Volvo Cars has on display these days in Beijing the S90 Excellence featuring an evolution of the Lounge Console Concept.

It was last year at the same show where Volvo Cars showed off the Lounge Console Concept on the second-gen XC90. Thanks to the very positive feedback, the Swedes have decided to adapt the interesting interior cabin layout in the S90 Excellence, the company’s most luxurious sedan on sale today.

As it was the case with the SUV, the S90 has lost the front passenger seat as a move to boost interior space and enhance forward visibility. Robin Page, Vice President Interior Design at Volvo Cars, says this significant change has an “extremely calming effect” and this is also partially due to the reason the cabin has now a more pronounced “sense of space and light.”

In the back, there’s a central control panel integrating heated and cooled cup holders and providing access to the seats’ massaging function. In addition, rear passengers can fiddle with the audio system and play around with the large media screen which is basically a big tablet. To make it even more luxurious, Volvo has fitted the S90 Excellence with a refrigerator unit built into the rear armrest where there are also two crystal glasses.

The versatile three-seater interior can serve as a mobile working station with a fold-out work table and that large touchscreen display. When you want to relax after a hard day’s work, Volvo says you can watch movies on Netflix or just recline the seat, take a cold drink and enjoy the cozy atmosphere enhanced by the heated foot support.
