Bentley is making the Mulsanne even more posh by introducing a First Edition at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show.
Based on the facelifted Mulsanne which debuted last month in Geneva, the First Edition adds several interior embellishments, such as the tailor-made Mulliner sterling silver vanity kit inlaid into the rear picnic table. Created by Asprey of London, the set bundles a vanity mirror, hair brush, and a comb which can all be neatly stored in the bespoke picnic table made by Mulliner.
In addition, there are a bunch of “First Edition” accents throughout the cabin, like the special tread plates, a diametric overlay on the rear seat picnic tables, and Union Jack-inspired seat embroidery. To make it even more special, Bentley will offer its flagship model in First Edition guise with a special “Flying B” hood ornament and a champagne cooler.
Bentley has plans to sell only 50 units of the Mulsanne “First Edition” which will be available across the three-model family: regular Mulsanne, the hotter Mulsanne Speed, and the ultra-luxurious Mulsanne Extended Wheelbase (EWB).
At the Beijing Auto Show which kicks off tomorrow, Bentley will have on display the EWB First Edition featuring a ripple-patterned Fulbeck veneer from a 350-year-old English walnut tree. Bentley bought the rare wood at an auction for an “undisclosed record price” particularly for the car. As for the other First Edition units, those will come with an Antique Ash veneer.
Joining the stretched Mulsanne in Beijing will be the Flying Spur V8 S, the latest addition to the Flying Spur family which celebrated its world premiere in Geneva last month. In addition, Bentley is also bringing a one-off Bentayga by Mulliner with a special veneer set showing the mountain scenery from where the high-end SUV got its name. Specifically for this one-off, the Crewe-based Mulliner team was in charge of making more than 30 individual pieces from 10 different veneers.
