Ford has announced the Focus RS will be the first car in North America available with an optional winter tire and wheel option as a factory accessory.

You’ll be able to have more fun on the snow with Ford’s all-wheel-drive Focus RS thanks to the winter tire + wheel combo priced at $1,995. The package is offered exclusively in North America and comes as standard equipment in Canada. For your money’s worth, the kit will include new 18x7.5-inch wheels and Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 tires measuring 225/40R18.

The wheels are pretty much the same as the standard ones, but come with a sparkle silver finish as a way to better hide the salt spray. The overall diameter of the wheels is smaller, so that Focus RS owners will be able to easily mount winter chains if necessary. In order to improve the hot hatchback’s traction on snowy roads, the wheels and tires are narrower than the stock ones.

Besides the new shoes, the Winter Wheel & Tire Package also includes a tire pressure monitoring system as well as center caps ready for installation at a dealer. Ford mentions the winter rubber was tested in cold climates such as Sweden and Northern Michigan to make sure it’s ready for winter conditions.

Set to hit dealerships in North America this spring, the standard 2016 Ford Focus RS costs $35,730 (excluding $875 destination charges). It comes with a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine pushing out 350 horsepower (261 kilowatts) and 350 pound-feet (474 newton meters) of torque. Output is channeled to an all-wheel drive system through a six-speed manual gearbox granting a sprint to 62 miles (100 kilometers) per hour in 4.7 seconds and a 165-mph top speed.
