The Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcats have been a huge hit with muscle car enthusiasts, so the company is trying to keep that momentum going by unveiling a new option on the 2016 models.
Beginning later this month, the cars can be equipped with full-length body stripes that have a carbon fiber inspired pattern and run from the front bumper to the rear end. The stripes will be a $995 option and customers who order them will be able to select from an extended exterior color palette that includes Bright White Clear Coat, Redline Red, Pitch Black Clear Coat, Granite Crystal Metallic Clear Coat, Billet Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Jazz Blue Pearl Coat, TorRed Clear Coat, Ivory White Tri-coat, Maximum Steel Metallic, and limited-edition Plum Crazy Pearl Coat.
The latter color was originally supposed to be phased out in December but Dodge says "exceptionally strong" demand for Plum Crazy models forced the company to continue to offer the retro-inspired paint for another month. This means Charger and Challenger Hellcats with full-length body stripes and a Plum Crazy paint job will be rare and presumably collectible.
The Charger and Challenger Hellcats are both equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine that develops 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The Challenger is priced from $64,195 while the Charger starts at $67,645.
