Ford Australia has announced plans to bring back the desirable “Sprint” badge for a limited-run Falcon due to come out next year.

Rumors concerning a “Sprint” revival surfaced the web several months ago and now Ford has confirmed it will be used for a special edition of the Falcon set to be launched in 2016. It will be available as an XR6 model with a turbocharged six-cylinder gasoline engine teamed up to a six-speed automatic along with an XR8 version featuring a supercharged V8 motor paired to both a six-speed manual and auto.

Ford Australia says the Falcon XR6/XR8 Sprint will benefit from an unspecified power increase and beefier brakes, while the wheels and exterior stripe design will be exclusive to this model. In addition, the cars are getting an individually numbered build plaque on the engine, bespoke interior trim on the seats (with “Sprint” embroidery), and “Sprint” badging on the front quarter panels and rear deck lid.

Ford hasn’t said how many units are planned to hit the assembly line, but we do know availability will be limited. More details about the new Falcon Sprint will be released at the beginning of 2016. The XR6 could receive somewhere in the region of 415 hp (310 kW) whereas the beefier XR8 will likely have around 470 hp (351 kW).

It seems Ford Australia is bringing out the big guns prior to closing down local manufacturing facilities by the end of next year. We are certain this special edition will sell like hot cakes and the Blue Oval company won’t have any problems shifting the entire allocated production run right away, even though it won’t be exactly cheap.
