According to reports out of the UK, Jaguar will announce plans to compete in Formula E.

Nothing is official but Sky News is reporting an announcement could come as early as tomorrow.  If true, the British automaker will eventually face off against Audi, Peugeot, and Renault in the eco-friendly world of electric racing.

While it might sound odd that Jaguar would be considering an entry into Formula E, insiders have said the move will likely be tied to the announcement of a new electric vehicle.  There's no word on specifics but speculation suggests the model could be built by Magna Steyr.

Little is known about the mysterious electric vehicle but Jaguar Land Rover unveiled three Concept_e research demonstrators earlier this year which featured electric Drive Module (eDM) technology.  The Concept_e BEV, in particular, is noteworthy as it was based on the JLR's iQ[Al] platform and featured a 70 kWh lithium-ion battery that powered to two electric motors which produced 113 hp (85 kW) and 194 hp (145 kW).

Previous reports have also suggested the company is working on an electric F-Pace.  If the rumors are correct, the model could be launched in 2018 and have a range of approximately 300 miles (483 km).
