Those who drive loud cars and rev the engine purely to make more noise are going to be fined in some areas of London.

While car fans enjoy a throaty exhaust that makes a lot of noise, that’s not the case with people living in the neighboring areas. Residents of Kensington and Chelsea in London have won a fight against owners of loud cars as the local council has implemented a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO). This was done as a response to “excessive level of noise nuisance, annoyance, danger or risk or harm or injury caused by motorists.” Based on this new ruling, those who are caught revving the engine of a loud car just to make noise will be fined $1,514 (£1,000).

That’s chump change for owners of supercars and hypercars as most of the drivers at risk to receive this fine come from Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. In July every year after the end of Ramadan, wealthy people travel to London to escape the intense heat in their countries. They bring high-end automobiles and most of them are tuned to make a bigger splash on the streets of London.

According to Daily Mail, it’s unlikely the fines will be paid as there aren’t really any big consequences. If the owner refuses to pay the fine, the local council contacts the driver’s embassy to enforce the notice. If that doesn’t work, the bill notice is sent to the driving authorities in the driver’s respective country.

Perhaps a better solution would be to simply impound the car until the driver pays the fine and all the costs related to the impound process.
