The finalists for North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year have been announced at an Automotive Press Association luncheon in Detroit.

The contenders for the prestigious North American Car of the Year award include the Chevrolet Malibu, the Honda Civic, and the Mazda MX-5.  Likewise, the finalists for the North American Truck/Utility of the Year award include the Honda Pilot, the Nissan Titan XD, and the Volvo XC90.

This year's winners will be selected by a jury of 53 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada.  The jurors will be voting for the car and truck/utility they believe sets "new benchmarks in their segments for innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value."

That will be no easy task as this year's finalists are all pretty strong contenders for the title of North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year.  The car side, in particular, seems like a toss-up.

The winners will be announced at the North American International Auto Show on January 11th but, in the meantime, feel free to let us know who you think should win in the comments below.
