Audi’s CEO, Rupert Stadler, says the company still has what it takes to reach two million annual sales by the end of the decade.

That’s a rather bold goal given the current Dieselgate context and also taking into account last year Audi shifted 1.74 million vehicles. The company does have a few aces up its sleeve as it’s getting ready to launch even more crossovers/SUVs: Q2 next year, Q6 (electric) in 2018, and Q8 in 2019. All three will play a crucial role in Audi’s target to have 40% of annual sales by 2020 coming from crossovers and SUVs.

As for the TDI saga, Rupert Stadler promises all of the 2.1 million Audis affected represent an immediate priority and the cars will be fixed as soon as possible. In his interview with Automotive News Europe, he refused to talk about the 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine's issues in US and he also did not want to reveal the date when he found out about the TDI-related problems.

When asked about the customers’ reaction to the Dieselgate, Stadler said he met with both private and fleet customers and “basically they are happy with the performance and the fuel consumption of their cars.”

On a different note, Audi’s CEO mentioned the real money come from vehicles priced at more than $54,000 (€50,000). As a consequence, the company is working on a “true offensive” in that area with the new A5, A6, A7, and A8.
