The 2016 Mercedes E-Class has returned in new spy footage and this time it was joined by the fancier Maybach version.

The two prototypes sitting next to each other give us a better idea of the size differences between the standard E-Class and its longer wheelbase sibling. The latter will be part of the newly founded Mercedes-Maybach family and will join the more luxurious S-Class. Taking into account the regular E-Class will be a little bit longer than the outgoing version, you can imagine the Maybach model will be even more roomier inside. In addition, it's also bound to become substantially more luxurious and could have individual rear seats.

Analyzing the attached spy footage, it’s easy to notice the Maybach version has elongated rear doors and the third side windows sit after the C-pillar. It’s unlikely we are looking at an E-Class L for China because it’s just too big to be a simply stretched E-Class. Keep in mind the outgoing E-Class L sold exclusively in China has the same third side window arrangement as the standard wheelbase E-Class. As a consequence, we are inclined to believe we are indeed dealing with a Maybach-branded model.

It remains to be seen whether the Mercedes-Maybach E-Class will affect sales of the entry-level S-Class and it will all depend on the price gap between the two. This more luxurious E will likely be out in the second half of 2016 or early 2017, following the official premiere of the standard E-Class next month in Detroit.

Note: Attached below the clip is another video showing a standard wheelbase E-Class in red with very little makeup.
