Great news coming from Stuttgart as Porsche has announced the Mission E concept will spawn a production version towards the end of the decade.

Porsche shocked us in the best possible way at this year’s Frankfurt event with the stunning Mission E concept and it turns out it wasn’t just for show. The company has disclosed plans to come out with its first-ever electric vehicle based on the Mission E and will allow the company to open “a new chapter in the history of the sports car.”

The good news continues as aside from the car itself, this new project will also generate more than 1,000 new jobs in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. Porsche plans to spend approximately €700 million as part of an investment that will include a new assembly plant and a new paint shop.

Moreover, the current engine factory will be expanded since it has to be adapted for production of electric motors. It’s the same story with the existing body shop as this one will get bigger as well. Additional investments will be done in other areas, including at the firm’s Weissach development center where the researchers are cooking up Porsche’s EV.

As for the Mission E concept, its design can be best described as a Panamera from the future and hopefully the gorgeous styling won’t get lost in translation on its way to the assembly line. We were equally impressed by the technical specifications as the all-electric Porsche has dual electric motors generating a combined output of more than 600 PS (440 kW). It is enough electric grunt for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 3.5 seconds and a 0-124 mph (0-200 km/h) journey in less than 12 seconds.

It also employs a Porsche Turbo Charging system filling up the batteries to an 80% level in around 15 minutes. It's good enough for a range of around 400 km (248 miles) out of a total of more than 500 km (311 miles). Add into the mix all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering, and you discover Porsche has the recipe for something truly impressive to convince more people EVs are indeed the future.
