Idecore has teamed up with Maltese Design to work on a hypothetical Fiat XXX that pays tribute to various Bertone and Marcello Gandini cars of the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

After last year’s BMW i8-based Renault Fuego successor, Idecore has now created a virtual concept for a lightweight and compact two-seater featuring a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout. It’s being described as more than just a design exercise as they used as foundation the 4C’s carbon fiber tub and Fiat’s 1.4-liter turbo engine. The Fiat XXX also has the Giulietta’s Dual Pinion Active Steering system and Alfa’s twin clutch gearbox.

As for styling, it’s a throwback to models created by the two famous designers from the 70s through the 90s and creates the impression of a fun-to-drive sportscar without having to break the bank. The low-profiled nose, wide rear end, and low ride height all contribute to create the image of a driver-focused vehicle with a light body and a punchy engine sending power to the rear axle.

The interior adopts a clean layout with a large horizontal digital screen along with a generous touchscreen on the center console for the infotainment system. Body-hugging seats and a flat-bottomed steering wheel emphasize the car’s sporty aspirations, while the three-piece glass sunroof has been shaped to mimic a blade.

Although it will remain a concept only for the virtual world, the Fiat XXX goes to show the importance of legendary car designers and their influence on this challenging domain.
