Hot on the heels of this week’s reveal, the Fiat 124 Spider has been digitally imagined in the hotter Abarth specification.

It’s not known at this point whether the Mazda MX-5 Miata upon which the Fiat 124 Spider is based will receive a more powerful version, but we do know for sure its Italian counterpart will spawn an Abarth derivative. Seen here is a speculative render created by OmniAuto.it based on the European model and as you would expect it comes with a more aggressive body. It adopts a two-tone white & black paint combined with red accents on the side mirror caps and also for the side stripes featuring “Fiat Abarth” lettering.

The Abarth 124 Spider is being imagined with a larger set of dark gray alloy wheels sourced from the Abarth 695 and backed by an upgraded braking system with red calipers. The added front spoiler lip makes it look more masculine and blends nicely with the redesigned bumper incorporating beefier air vents.

The most important upgrade will occur underneath the hood where the Italian roadster will have considerably more than the 140 bhp (104 kW) and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm) offered by the 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine in the standard model. It’s not known at this point what will power the Abarth version, but it will likely be a stronger configuration of the same engine or the 1.75-liter sourced from the Alfa Romeo 4C. Regardless of the engine’s identity, expect the power level to increase to somewhere in the region of 200 bhp (149 kW).

Chances are we will get to see the Abarth 124 Spider in the second half of next year and it will likely be offered with a six-speed manual to the delight of purists.
