Giom Mouton from South Africa is back again with yet another interesting rendering, this time depicting a possible successor for the legendary BMW 8-Series.

Rumors about a new 8-Series have been swirling for years and this is not the first time an artist is presenting a virtual attempt on the topic. So far we’ve seen projects based on the current 7-Series and the Gran Lusso Concept and now we are presented with a new vision, sharing some cues with the 6-Series GranCoupe.

Using the stylish sedan’s chassis dimensions, this 8-Series is 100 mm lower and features classic coupe lines. At the front we see the kidney grill paying homage to “the 70s 'shark nose' design”, while the rear end is much rounder than the one of the original 8-Series.

The designer explains that “it is not difficult to come up with beautiful BMW designs since the inherent BMW DNA is already close to perfect. Especially when it comes to large coupes. The focus is on proportions. You get those right and the rest simply falls into place.”

Recent rumors suggested the Bavarian company is planning a flagship coupe that could be called the 9-Series. If the model gets the green light, it could be based on the next generation Rolls-Royce Phantom with CFRP for the passenger cell. The engine range could include the familiar 3.0-liter petrol and diesel engines, while a more powerful 4.4-liter V8 turbocharged unit and a hybrid powerplant could also be in the cards.
