We are approaching the rebirth of an icon, as Fiat is preparing for the global debut of its 124 Spider roadster during the Los Angeles Auto Show. Now, literally hours before the big launch, we have a blurry and overexposed photo of the car taken under the show lights.
For starters, we have to admit the roadster looks better in blue than in the black hue we saw a few weeks ago. Still, the car can’t hide its Mazda MX-5 genes, but the more squarish rear end creates an illusion it’s actually slightly bigger.
Under the stylish body we will probably find a 1.4-liter turbo petrol unit delivering 180 HP (134 kW). It will be mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a double-clutch automatic.
A hotter Abarth version is also on the agenda and it will be launched in about a year from now with a 1.75-liter unit and a DCT borrowed from the Alfa Romeo 4C.
Stay tuned for official photos and technical details.
