Honda is gearing up to introduce their new fuel cell vehicle (FCV) at the Tokyo Motor Show but a new report is indicating the model could also be offered as a plug-in hybrid and a pure electric vehicle.

Nothing is official but the company has already confirmed plans to introduce an all-new battery electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid model by 2018.  Basing them on the FCV would reduce development and production costs and help hedge against what will most likely be small sales of the FCV variant.

There's no word on specifications for the plug-in hybrid or BEV but the FCV promises to deliver an "exhilarating" driving experience and a range in excess of 700 km (435 miles).
