Volkswagen CEO Matthias Müller has addressed the Dieselgate scandal during a works meeting in Wolfsburg.
Speaking to more than 20,000 employees, Müller said "We can and we will overcome this crisis, because Volkswagen is a group with a strong foundation. And above all because we have the best automobile team anyone could wish for."
The executive went on to say they are still investigating the scandal's origin but a fix will be presented shortly. Müller was coy on specifics but said in "many instances a software update will be sufficient." However, certain models will require undisclosed "hardware modifications."
Müller also noted the "enormous financial damage which ... is still not possible to quantify as of today." This has led the executive to initiate a critical review of all planned investments and everything that is "not absolutely necessary will be cancelled or postponed."
