An interesting Kia prototype was spotted in the Austrian Alps and we believe underneath the disguise it's the Niro small crossover, even though at a first glance it looks like a cee'd-based rival for the Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan.
Kia revealed its intentions of coming out with a small crossover back in 2013 with the Niro concept, a B-segment high-riding model set to take on the Nissan Juke, Renault Captur and the others. We know that a production version is being developed and chances are this is it, with a reveal set for next year when the model will be slotted underneath the all-new Sportage, but above the Soul.
We are aware of the fact that Kia just launched the Hyundai ix25-based KX-3 in China, but this appears to look different and it's probably a more sophisticated global model.
A little bird told us it will in fact be sold only with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, also used by Hyundai's upcoming Prius-like model.
The production-ready Niro is expected to show up in Geneva next March and go on sale in the second half of the year.
