Set to improve the company's competitiveness in North America, the NAR will enable the automaker to "better react to customer demands and tastes in the future."

Volkswagen has announced their newly formed North American Region (NAR) will be headed by Prof. Dr. Winfried Vahland who was recently appointed as President and CEO of the division.

Set to improve the company's competitiveness in North America, the NAR will enable the automaker to "better react to customer demands and tastes in the future."  Volkswagen also noted they will benefit from being in closer proximity to their customers and the markets of Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The company went on to say the creation of NAR is a "further measure in the process of decentralizing managerial responsibility, and it creates another strong pillar in the global structure of the group, in addition to the European and Chinese regions."
