Mercedes' head of research and development has revealed some new details about the company's coming electric vehicle.

In an interview with Automotive News, Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber confirmed the company is working on a Tesla Model S competitor which will have a range between 400-500 km (250 to 310 miles).  While previous reports have suggested the car would be unveiled soon, it's still several years off as an introduction has been pencilled in for 2018.

Weber declined to go into specifics but said the car will be "unique," "emotional" and "different."  He also hinted that several of the aerodynamic styling features on the Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile concept could be used on the model.
