Two near-production prototypes of the hardcore Ferrari F12 Berlinetta have been spotted in Italy.

Set to debut next week at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the meaner F12 is believed to receive the Speciale suffix although some are saying it could actually bring back the iconic GTO moniker. Seen here are two red and blue partially camouflaged prototypes near Ferrari's factory in Maranello. The company with the prancing horse logo still keeps disguise on these cars although about a month ago we saw it without any sort of mascara.

Rumors say it will lose a whopping 200 kg (441 lbs), but we have our doubts the diet will be so extensive. The weight loss will be corroborated with some extra muscle from the V12 6.3-liter engine which is expected to gain 30 bhp (22 kW) for a grand total of 760 bhp (567 kW). These changes should enable the F12 GTO / Speciale run the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in less than three seconds.

As far as the design is concerned, from last month's spy pics we saw some important modifications such as vented rear fenders with three slats to boost cooling. There will also be a new rear diffuser and additional vents installed above the exhaust tips, along with fresh two-tone alloys and black brake calipers.

Special thanks go to Beyond Speed for allowing us to use the pics!
