GM spokesman Mike Albano has revealed the 2016 Chevrolet Volt will have a shortened model year with limited availability.

Speaking to Automotive News, Albano said the redesigned 2016 Volt will go on sale this fall but only be sold in eco-friendly markets such as California, Oregon and the Northeastern United States.

While this is unfortunate news for fans, Albano said the 2017 Volt will go sale in the spring of 2016 with several new features.  As he explained, “We’re pulling ahead the ’17 [model] a bit to get additional content into the car."  The spokesperson declined to elaborate but said the 2017 model wouldn't feature any changes to the car's powertrain.
