The new Ford GT has been spotted as a test mule cruising the streets of Detroit ahead of a late 2016 launch.

Caught on camera on the M-39 Southfield Freeway, the test mule certainly stands out from the crowd with that apocalyptic unfinished bodywork and the protruding exhaust pipes. Development on the model started towards the end of 2013 and now the GT revival is undergoing testing to make sure everything will be ready in time for the model's launch late next year.

The Blue Oval company has already announced it will cost just about the same as the Lamborghini Aventador ($397,500) and only 250 units will be produced each year to keep the model exclusive. Its heart and soul will be a beefy EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 pushing out in excess of 600 bhp (447 kW) which corroborated with a light body will allow the 2017 Ford GT to "exhibit one of the best power-to-weigh ratios of any production car."
