The first 2016 Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang has rolled off the assembly line in Flat Rock, Michigan.

Originally unveiled at the North American International Auto Show, the GT350R Mustang is billed as the “the most track-ready road-going production Mustang ever built.”  In order to achieve this, the model was equipped with an aerodynamic body kit and 19-inch carbon fiber wheels.  The car has also been stripped of non-essential equipment - including the air conditioning system, the stereo and the rear seats - to save weight.

Power is provided by a 5.2-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine that produces 526 bhp (392 kW) and 429 lb-ft (580 Nm) of torque.  It is connected to a six-speed manual transmission which sends power to rear wheels via a limited-slip differential.

In a statement, Ford executive chairman Bill Ford said “This is a special day for all Mustang enthusiasts. We have taken the GT350 formula to the next level of innovation, style and performance.  Today the legend continues.”
