Audi's most powerful S8 ever has made a return in a couple of official promotional videos.

The A8 (D4) is on its way to a well-deserved retirement, but Audi wants to prove the current hot S8 still has some life in it by launching a higher specification Plus version which ups the power ante to a massive 605 PS (445 kW) and 700 Nm (750 Nm with overboost) generated by the upgraded V8 twin-turbo 4.0-liter engine.

It looks tastefully restrained, but in reality this is a real beast since the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) task is accomplished in a mere 3.8 seconds before topping out at an electronically-capped 155 mph (250 km/h), not too shabby for a car of this size and weight. Potential customers driving regularly on the unrestricted areas of the autobahn will probably be interested to hear Audi can optionally bump that limiter to 189.5 mph (305 km/h).

It's the closest thing the current A8 generation will get to a full-blown RS8 and for most people it will probably be enough. It costs €145,200 in Germany where it will go on sale this November packing as standard matrix LED headlights and bespoke 21-inch alloy wheels wrapped around in chunky 275/35 tires.
