Renault's managing director does not rule out the possibility of launching hybrid-powered RS models.
In an interview with British magazine Autocar at the recent London race part of Formula E, Patrice Ratti was asked whether there might be a future RS model powered solely by electric motors or with hybrid technology. He said a pure electric Renaultsport model won't happen anytime soon as the current technology would require lots of batteries, but he did confirm development of hybrid sportscars.
He went on to specify a hybrid RS model would not only have fewer CO2 emissions but also better acceleration performances thanks to the electric motor. Ratti said development of electric vehicles is evolving thanks to Formula E and they are hard at work improving battery technology, estimating that in a few years the range will increase by 3-4 times.
